I have been a DONA certified Birth Doula since 2003. I am also an International Childbirth Educators Association (ICCE) childbirth educator. I am on a long slow road to becoming an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). I have training in the use of EFT (Meridian Tapping) for birth, which many of my clients enjoy using. My philosophy when it comes to birth is that a woman's body tells us what we need to know to be able to assist her. Family and doula support enable the woman to birth her baby in the way that is best for her.
I am a fully trained doula, currently working toward DONA certification. My long-term goals include earning my degree as a certified nurse midwife. I support my clients by educating them and helping them make informed decisions. I employ a hands-on approach and tailor my methods to the needs and preferences of my clients.
I am a DONA trained Birth Doula serving the Salt Lake Valley. I believe that all women deserve to have informed care and their best birth.
As your doula, I provide education during your pregnancy, and help you to communicate your birth preferences with your care provider. I aim to create a space where you and your birth partner can relax into the rhythms of birth, and find comfort measures that work best for you.
My fee covers:
- 2 prenatal appointments
- birth preferences to give to your care provider (if desired)
- 24/7 phone support
- continuous labor support
- assistance establishing breastfeeding
- 1 postpartum visit
- educational resources including access to my personal lending library.
I am humbled and honored to assist women and their families during such an amazing moment. Women are amazing and powerful, and I remain in awe of each and every one of you.
I am a DONA-trained doula, senior student midwife at Midwives College of Utah, apprentice midwife, and Licensed Massage Therapist.
I use my unique skill-set to support women and families, physically and emotionally, throughout their labor and birth. I believe women should be empowered to take charge of their individual experiences and I will do everything I can to ensure that. I will draw on my knowledge and experience to help inform you through every phase of your birth and support whatever choices you make.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have!
I am passionate about birth and helping women through their journey into motherhood. My life calling is to create a peaceful loving environment for babies to be welcomed into this world. Each birth is a new beginning. I provide emotional and physical support to women and their families through this process.
In 2015, I received my training through DONA and Doula Caribe. I am certified through DONA as a birth doula, and through Doula Caribe as a birth and postpartum doula. I am an apprentice midwife and will become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in 2019. I have a BA in Spanish. I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish
I have two sons. The oldest was born at a birth center in 2011 and the youngest at home in 2012. I am from Utah and currently live in Bountiful. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and exercising.
A little about me and some of the skills I have developed and use in my doula work:
After ten years of working with families as a preschool teacher, I spent a year studying Inca shamanism and receiving intensive training from an Inca Shaman in balancing energy and learning to see how energy flows in the body and how to assist this flow. I lean on the foundations of this training to create personalized meditative visualizations for specific concerns, including balancing, fear release, and focused intention. I enjoy listening to the body and following the things it has to show and teach me. In a similar way, I enjoy listening to my clients and to their hopes, their fears, their history and their desires for the future. I use all this awareness to assist you in making powerful decisions, letting go of worries and fears that may get in the way, and supporting you in knowing that YOU are the most powerful element in having a powerful birth.
Another part of me that I bring into the birth room is my bachelors degree in Family Studies. With a heavy focus on the working order of the family system, this training keeps me aware of the balance of the family system, making sure to involve and empower the partner in ways that they feel comfortable, and being aware of the emotional balance in the room as well as the physical coping needs of everyone who is a part of the birth team.
The third thing I bring to the room is my study and training with birth, prenatal health, and postnatal care. I've studied the Dona materials, gone to training with Penny Simkin (birth worker extraordinaire and author of many birth books, including The Birth Partner), received training in Spinning Babies, and am currently in process to receive my certification as an Advanced Doula through the Midwives College of Utah. I loved the information given by the Spinning Babies program and I emphasize the importance of pelvic health and balance to all of my clients...giving you homework to do with your partner to help your pelvic floor be in top condition for birth.
If you have any questions or would like to schedule an interview, I would be happy to discuss your birth plans with you.
Henna Belly Blessing
Henna Ceremony for Mother's Blessings
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Human Development from Brigham Young University. Since having my children, I have been a full time mother and have loved every minute. Once all of my kids began school, I joined the University of Utah’s volunteer doula program in 2015. This gave me wonderful training and many opportunities to help women who wouldn’t have had the blessing of a doula otherwise. I felt a fire and excitement through these experiences, and I knew I wanted to further pursue this path. I received my training through Doulas Of North America (DONA) and am currently completing certification. I will also complete Advanced Hypnodoula training, March 2017.
In my free time I like to hike, cook, volunteer at my kids schools, read, perform musical theatre, organize things, and play cards/board games with my family.
You can read more about me on my website.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and upcoming birth! Birth is such an amazing time in a woman's life and it is such an honor and pleasure to be a part of this wonderful process. My personal experiences lead me into the birth work that I do today and I am very passionate about educating and supporting mothers and families in this sacred time of their lives.
I have given birth to and am a mother of three amazing boys and all with very different birth stories. My first was born by cesarean section, my second was a medicated (though trying to go natural) VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), and my third was born at home with a midwife, doula, and loving support completely natural, no medications or interventions. With each birth I knew more about what I desired for birth, for myself and for my babies. My personal births gave me the desire to share with anyone who would listen about how amazing our bodies are as women and the immense power we have in being able to birth our babies, however we desire, and to be supported in doing so. As a birth doula I work for YOU not for the provider, hospital or anyone else. A doula will never replace a husband or birth partner and it is quite often this support person that raves about how wonderful it was to have extra hands and someone to bounce things off of so they could give their full attention to mom...my husband included!
My doula services include 1-2 Prenatal Meetings, 24 hour phone support, as well as e-mail/facebook support throughout pregnancy and postpartum, Labor Support for as much or as little of the birth as desired (I generally meet moms at home before they decide to move to their birth place, unless they are having a home birth), Arrangements for a back-up doula which you would meet at one of the prenatal meetings, Breastfeeding Support, and a Postpartum Visit. As a Childbirth Educator I make sure mom and husband/partner are knowledgeable about what to expect during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum, however the education received in these prenatal meetings does not replace the weeks worth of education that would be learned by taking a comprehensive childbirth class, no matter the method. I also offer Malaysian Bengkung Belly Binding, which is discounted if paired with Doula Services. For more information about doula services please visit the website listed above, or copy and paste the following into your browser: http://www.madeforbirth.com/
I teach The Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth and more information about the classes themselves and class schedules may be found on the following website: http://bradleybirth.com/stephanieking
I look forward to speaking to you about your upcoming birth and wish you the best in achieving your desired birth!
I first fell in love with birth when I started doing research during my first pregnancy. I knew that I wanted to have an un-medicated labor, and having Type 1 Diabetes would make it harder to achieve, being classified as high-risk and all. During my research I realized that many women don’t know their options during childbirth and many don’t even realize they HAVE options. After having my eyes opened into this magical world of birth I could not close them again, nor did I want to. I want to help every woman feel empowered, supported, knowledgeable, and excited for the birth of their baby.
I am a highly trained and skilled doula in the height of my life's passion. I am in my element when, after weeks of preparation and education, I see a woman and her partner share a secret, knowing look of shimmering emotion that shows all their hard work paid off, in one of life's most precious moments. This moment is further enhanced for me when the woman’s partner has been encouraged and taught how to help and has been a key element in the pregnancy and labor process, without which, things may have turned out much differently. I feel very strongly about being an advisor to birthing women so they can have the birth they intend, without unnecessary interventions due to lack of knowledge or support.
My goal as a doula is simply to improve birth – by helping to reduce physical and emotional trauma, by empowering women through knowledge and practice, and to advocate for safer birth experiences led by a woman’s own body.
I have had one un-medicated hospital birth, one abdominal birth (c-section), and one un-medicated VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean) in the hospital. I believe that regardless of circumstance, all births can be beautiful. I have experience helping women with un-medicated, medicated, cesarean, and VBAC births. I also have personal and professional experience with high-risk pregnancy, diabetes during pregnancy, and VBACs. I can skillfully educate on things that others may not have reason to know. I am also the Chapter Leader of ICAN Weber/Davis County.
