Hannele Laine, OBGYN

Hannele Laine is a board certified OB-GYN who has been practicing at Avenues Women’s Center in Salt Lake City, Utah since 2007. She earned her Medical Degree from the University of Kentucky in 2003 and then moved to Utah for residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Utah.

A little known fact is that between college and medical school, she almost went to lay midwifery school after learning about birth in a medical anthropology class. In fact, when she went to medical school, she never planned on being an OB-GYN, because she didn’t want to be “brainwashed!” But she couldn’t deny her calling. She really enjoys supporting patients through natural labor and encourages patients interested in avoiding an epidural to consider hiring a doula to improve their experience and success.

Her other interests include high risk pregnancies and a wide variety of gynecologic concerns from infertility to menopause, with a focus on preventative care. Developing a relationship with her patients is important to her as she cares for their medical needs and concerns. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, running, hiking, camping, skiing, reading, travelling and sometimes sleeping.

She is the lead physician for Avenues Women’s Center, adjunct faculty for the OB-GYN Department at the University of Utah and also participates in several leadership roles at LDS and Salt Lake Regional Hospital.
