Emily Hart Hayes, DNP, CNM, WHNP-BC

Emily is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and the Clinical Director of the BirthCare HealthCare Faculty Practice. She provides pregnancy, postpartum, family planning, and gynecologic care at the South Jordan Health Center. She also provides labor and birth care at the University Hospital. BirthCare HealthCare nurse midwives have amazing birth statistics, including an overall Cesarean section rate of less than 10% annually for greater than 10 years, as compared to a national average of 33%. In addition, they have an episiotomy rate of less than 4% and a very high success rate for Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC) deliveries. Emily offers prenatal care through the University of Utah Health Virtual Prenatal Care Program, which provides convenient and personalized prenatal care to low-risk pregnancies.

Emily believes in equitable, ethical, quality health care for all women. Her philosophy affirms the normalcy of women’s life events, emphasizing patient, watchful observation and non-intervention in normal processes. She is also passionate about policy issues that affect women and families, and is the Chair of the American College of Nurse Midwives Political Action Committee (PAC).

A Utah native, Emily is married and has two school-aged children. Her time away from work is usually spent with her family and pets. She enjoys skiing, hiking, reading, and music.
